![]() To round out their insect diet, Eberhardt’s happy chickens dine on vegetarian feed placed in bins throughout the property. Once sated, chickens can then toddle off to hoop houses where nests await. Here chickens take 24-26 hours to lay an egg, laying one every other day, on average. The combination of fresh air, exercise and grass-based diet gives Raynblest eggs a bright, orange-yellow yolk that stands up higher and firmer than its conventionally raised peers. The Eberhardts also raise two boys on their farm who also get a lot of fresh air and easy access to food. The boys, now 15 and 16, have helped collect eggs and sell them at market since they were toddlers. In addition, the family stays busy harvesting prunes and keeping bees, from which they make and sell honey, and a variety of beeswax products such as candles and cosmetics. Visit their family booth this Saturday and pick up a dozen eggs for your Easter buffet or spring herb quiche and taste the yields of their cheery chickens. ![]() |
