After nine years at the helm of the Portland Farmers Market, our Executive Director, Dianne Stefani-Ruff is taking her well-deserved and hard-earned retirement. We honor her years of service in making the market what it is today. We now turn our attention to hiring her replacement to continue the momentum that Dianne has so carefully gathered.
We are accepting applications for the Executive Director position through July 16. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about the need to sustain our region's family farms and to preserve the role that farmers markets play in this effort. This high-level position requires proven management and planning skills as well as fundraising experience. For the full job announcement and position application, please click here.

Celebrating the surfeit of berries that blesses the Pacific Northwest, the market calls all berry lovers to the Red, White and Blueberry Festival, Thursday, June 21, at the Ecotrust Market in the Pearl and Thursday, June 28, at the Eastbank Farmers Market. Sponsored by Organic Valley Family of Farms, homemade berry shortcakes topped with fresh, organic whipped cream, is complimentary to market shoppers with a minimum purchase of $5 from any farmers market vendor.
Home cooks can learn how to incorporate berries into a slew of different recipes shared by local chefs -- Matt Johnson and Matthew Busetto of New Seasons will stop by the Ecotrust Market in the Pearl while Dan Allen of Cricket Café and Karen Siebert, head nutritionist of New Seasons Market will be showing off their culinary tricks at the Eastbank Market.
To top it all off, local musicians will play for the crowd – The Earl White String Band at the Ecotrust Market in the Pearl and Back Porch Revival at the Eastbank Farmers Market.

Organic Valley Family of Farms was formed almost 20 years ago with a handful of farmers seeking to survive in the face of a changing economy and to help make the world a better place. Today, 1,000 family farmers throughout the country sell their organic milk and dairy products into regional markets, so Organic Valley customers get local products. Organic Valley is proud to join you in supporting Portland Farmers Market. Get to know a few of Organic Valley's Oregon farmers at the market's festivals and special events.

You may find Chris Overbaugh studying the astrological positions of the stars before he plants the new season’s crops. You may also find him mixing up a homeopathic application of cow manure placed inside a cow horn and then burying it under the soil to bring on the land’s earthly forces. It’s all part of the program at Wintergreen Farm, a biodynamic farm located in Noti, Oregon -- just west of Eugene. This holistic method of farming looks at the farm as an organism, composed of crops, animals, plants, and land – all working in tandem with the cycles of nature. The end result: a robust commercially successful farm producing a surfeit of organic fruits and vegetables.

One of summer’s finest adventures is the opportunity to visit a U-pick farm. Wandering down the rows of produce and harvesting your own crop makes you appreciate the bounty of our region. It also makes for a fun and educational outing with kids. Many of the vendors who sell at Portland Farmers Market also operate U-picks and/or farm stands – some even have restaurants.
