Enroll your junior chefs in Kids Cook at the Market classes, where they’ll cultivate culinary skills and experience a cornucopia of farm-fresh foods. At Kids Cook classes, kids learn about the seasonality of food, meet local farmers, and prepare ingredients purchased fresh at the market. Classes include a guided market tour, hands-on instruction and recipes to take home so students can share what they learn with family and friends.

We proudly partner with The Portland Kitchen, a local nonprofit using food as a tool to build life skills with youth in a fun and creative setting, to provide instructors for the Kids Cook series.

The class instructor this year will be Samantha Petersen, who has been working in the industry for 10+ years.  Growing up in California, she was inspired by chefs like Alice Waters and the farm to table food movement.  After attending Merritt’s Culinary Arts program in Oakland, she moved to Portland to help open The Hazel Room, a local brunch spot. She has also been volunteering for three years with The Portland Kitchen.
