A jug band is defined by its use of homemade instruments, and the How Long Jug Band blends their kazoos, washboards and jugs seamlessly with their conventional guitars, mandolins and banjos. Inspired by the great jug bands of the 1920's and 30's, the How Longs play a mixture of traditional blues, ragtime and early jazz tunes, all with an easygoing attitude that's a pleasure to see.

Jangano Marimba means “Alliance of Wooden Voices” in Shona, the main language of Zimbabwe. The band started eleven years ago as an after-school class at da Vinci Arts Middle School, and even then, drew on players from other schools. Today Jangano consists of eight elementary, middle and high school players from many schools all over Portland. Choro da Alegria (choro of happiness) is a Portland-based ensemble dedicated to playing the wonderful melodies of Brazil. Beyond choro the group enjoys performing classics tunes from Bossa Nova and MPB.
