7th Heaven for KillerBreadHeads

4 loaves and 7 years ago…

A message from our friends at Dave’s Killer Bread:

On August 6, 2005, Dave “KillerBreadMan” Dahl and his nephew, Shobi Dahl, brought their four new “killer” breads to the Portland Farmers Market’s Summer Loaf Artisan Bread Festival, hoping to win some fans. Now, seven years later, Dave’s Killer Bread is on shelves throughout the West, and has become a sponsor of Portland Farmers Market. What a difference seven years makes!

To celebrate this milestone, some of Portland’s best sandwich chefs will compete for the honor of first ever Killer Sandwich King at Portland Farmers Market on Saturday, August 4 at 11:30 a.m.

The competitors – including Matt Breslow of Grilled Cheese Grill, Steve Carder of The Peoples’ Sandwich of Portland and Gregory Gourdet of Departure Restaurant + Lounge – must source all their sandwich ingredients from PFM vendors that morning, and must make their sandwich using one of the 16 DKB varieties.

Killer Sandwich Showdown Judges – including Trudy Toliver of Portland Farmers Market, Drew Carney of KGW-TV, Ryan Alexander-Tanner our DKB Illustrator and Dick Tallman our KillerBreadHead Facebook Winner Guest Judge – will sample the chef’s’ creations and crown a Killer Sandwich King.

“Seven years has gone by in a flash, and we want to pay homage to the place where it all started with this killer competition,” said Dahl, president and co-founder of Dave’s Killer Bread. “We’ve never forgotten our roots, and still have a booth twice a month at the Farmers Market, working alongside some of Oregon’s finest local farmers and vendors. We can’t wait to celebrate this milestone with them.”
