Cheese Lovers Unite this Saturday

Posting from Carrisa Sauer of Oregon Dairy Products Commission

Artisan, specialty, and farmstead cheesemakers from throughout the Northwest will converge in Portland on Saturday, October 8, 2011, for The Wedge: Portland Celebrates Cheese Festival. The farmer’s market-style event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Green Dragon Bistro & Brewpub.  The festival is organized by the Oregon Cheese Guild and Rogue Ales & Spirits and free to the public. The Oregon Cheese Guild suggests a $5 entry contribution to help the nonprofit Guild grow Oregon’s artisan cheesemaker community.

French Prairie Brie from Willamette Valley Cheese Co.

Rogue Ales & Spirits will make their newly released Rogue Farms Freedom Hop Cheddar available for sampling and purchase. The Freedom Hop Cheddar is a collaboration of crafts between Rogue Creamery and Rogue Ales & Spirits. Rogue will host a Grilled Cheese Bar, cooking up their new Grilled Three-Cheese Sandwich.  There will also be free cheese and beer pairing classes.

If The Wedge doesn’t fit into your weekend schedule you can still celebrate American Cheese Month throughout October.  Look for handcrafted cheese at a Farmers Market near you.
