Say hello to Sun Moon Fields now at PSU Farmers Ma Say hello to Sun Moon Fields now at PSU Farmers Market!

We are excited to welcome this unique farm this season through our partnership with the Headwaters Farm Incubator Program. This program, through East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District, serves as a launchpad for new farm businesses with limited resources by providing participants with affordable access to farmland, equipment, peer networks and other important resources.

Sun Moon Fields is a queer, Latinx-owned and operated micro-farm specializing in mixed vegetables. Farmer Tara focuses on Mesoamerican crops that honor their Mexican heritage on their father's side. Their offerings include potatoes, cabbage, broccolini, kale, collard greens, radicchio, arugula, mizuna, carrots, herbs, shallots, onions, garlic, celery, and celeriac. Additionally, they create and sell value-added farm products, including dried flowers, dried peppers, herbal tea, and seasoning salt.

Their produce is grown using regenerative and organic practices at the Headwaters Incubator Farm, near Gresham.

Make sure to visit their booth this Saturday to explore everything they have to offer!

Farmers market vendors and their staff are invited to a free online workshop, Boost Your SNAP & Double Up Sales by Enhancing Shopper Experience, on Thursday, January 29, at 4:30 pm.

In this upcoming workshop, Mallory Watson, Program Manager with Farmers Market Fund, will facilitate a session on how shoppers' experiences influence SNAP and Double Up Food Bucks participation and purchases at farmers markets.

Key takeaways for participating vendors include:
✔️An understanding of the state of hunger in Oregon today, and how we got here.
✔️Information about trauma and how it shows up for people when accessing food
✔️A clearer sense of how SNAP and Double Up programs work day to day
✔️Ways to talk about accepted benefits at the booth
✔️Ideas for booth layout and signage that help purchasing feel easy.

This workshop is part of a series for farmers market vendors, hosted by Portland Farmers Market in collaboration with Oregon Farmers Market Association. The goal of the series is to enhance the shopping experience and increase vendor success at farmers markets.

We are currently accepting vendor applications for the five farm and food marketplaces we operate in Portland: PSU, Shemanski Park, King, Kenton, and Lents International.

Each market features vendors offering food and farm products. All items must be grown, raised, caught, gathered, or produced by the vendor in Oregon or Washington, and they must be pre-approved before being sold at the market.

We take pride in serving as an incubator for local small food businesses and in supporting numerous local and regional farms, bakeries, meat and seafood providers, cheese makers, and specialty food producers.

Remember, the application deadline is this Fri, Jan 16, so don't miss your chance to join our markets!
