Okome Kitchen specializes in Amazake, a fermented rice drink that is deeply rooted in the owners' Japanese culture and heritage. Owners Akiko and Ayako craft their product locally and aim to share this unique beverage to support health-conscious living while connecting cultures through food. Amazake is a delicious, umami-filled, plant-based drink that has been treasured in Japan for over 1,000 years. It is made from just three ingredients: rice, koji, and water. This non-alcoholic drink is naturally sweetened through the fermentation process and contains no gluten, lactose, or added sugar. Amazake is rich in gut-friendly enzymes, vitamin B, and amino acids, and contains significantly higher probiotic concentrations compared to other fermented foods. You can enjoy Amazake as a refreshing drink, or used in smoothies, overnight oats, and various other recipes.
