Meet Amber Holland, Portland Farmers Market’s New Executive Director

Earlier this month, Amber Holland, a dedicated and passionate member of the Portland Farmers Market team for 19 years, was promoted to Executive Director.

In her own words, Amber shares her journey with the organization and her vision for enhancing community connections and supporting local food initiatives:

I joined Portland Farmers Market in 2007 and have had the privilege of serving in a variety of roles, working alongside farmers, food makers, staff, volunteers, community partners, and thousands of shoppers who make our markets vibrant gathering places each week. Those experiences have given me a deep appreciation for what makes Portland Farmers Market special: the relationships we build and the trust we earn through consistent service to our community.

For the past 20 years, this organization has been much more than my workplace. It has been a community that has shaped my career, given me purpose during times of challenge and reinforced my personal belief in the power of local food and community. Today, I am honored to serve as Executive Director.

As I step into this role, my vision is grounded in both continuity and thoughtful growth. Portland Farmers Market has built an incredible legacy over more than three decades by connecting local farmers and food producers directly with our community. Preserving that mission while adapting to new challenges and opportunities is at the heart of my leadership.

I believe strong organizations are built through collaboration, transparency, and a willingness to listen. My goal is to ensure that Portland Farmers Market remains a place where farmers and small businesses can thrive, shoppers feel welcome and connected, and our staff and partners have the support they need to do their best work. At the same time, I am committed to strengthening the systems and infrastructure behind the scenes so our organization can continue to serve the region for many years to come.

Farmers markets are about more than buying fresh food. They create opportunities for entrepreneurs, keep dollars circulating in the local economy, foster human connection, and help build resilient communities. Every market day, rain or shine, reflects the dedication and hard work of the people who grow, raise, bake, craft, and prepare the food that we enjoy.

As we look ahead, I am excited to build on the strong foundation that has made Portland Farmers Market a trusted community institution. Thank you to our vendors, shoppers, donors, volunteers, partners, and supporters for being part of this journey. I look forward to continuing our work together to celebrate and strengthen our region’s local food system.

I hope to see you at the market soon.
