We are excited to highlight another wonderful gran We are excited to highlight another wonderful grant recipient: Rice Thief! WHO THEY ARE: Rice Thief is a Korean deli that specializes in creating from-scratch, seasonally inspired Korean banchan and sauces. Owner & founder Anna carefully sources ingredients for quality and seasonality from local food businesses and regional farms that are committed to organic and pesticide-free agricultural practices. Rice Thief is at PSU Farmers Market, although their last markets of the 2026 season are 11/7 and 11/21. HOW THE MATTHEW CHOI FARMERS MARKET VENDOR GRANT HELPED THEM: The grant offered critical financial support for kitchen equipment purchases, as well as booth needs such as banners, menu signage, and a new tent canopy. Additionally, these funds helped support significant operational expenses, including cargo van rentals, vendor booth fees, commercial kitchen rent, and restaurant permits/liability insurance. GROWTH: Since receiving the grant in 2025, Anna has been developing new seasonal Korean side dishes, including jarred ferments (kimchi) and pickles (jangajji), as well as grab-and-go "deli counter" items (dubu jorim, geotjeori, muchim, bibimguksu, etc.). Rice Thief additionally launched GG (gochu ganjang) sauce for both the farmers market and small local grocers such as the Alberta Co-op. WHAT'S NEXT: Increasing demand and expanding to a second farmers market! Help support future emerging food entrepreneurs like Rice Thief as they launch and expand at local farmers markets in 2027.
