If you are not shopping at the farmers market, here are some reasons why you should:

🏞 Support Local Farms 🚜
Shopping at farmers markets sustains small regional growers, ranchers, fishers and food producers. Supermarkets and grocery stores typically acquire food from large factory farms and distributors.

🍎Know Where Your Food Comes From🍓
Talking to farmers and food producers is a wonderful opportunity to understand how and where food is grown.

🏔 Reduce Your Food Miles.🚚
Food in the US travels an average of 1,500 miles to get to your plate. Shipping uses enormous amounts of natural resources, contributes to pollution, and creates trash with extra packaging. You can lessen your food miles by shopping at the farmers market. Our farmers and food producers travel less than 50 miles on average from where they grow produce and make their food.

🙂 Connect with Your Community.😃
Meet up with neighbors and gather with pals and family. Make some new friends!

☀️❄Embrace the Seasons.⛈🍂
Shopping at the farmers market helps you connect with the cycles of nature in our region and the produce they bring. Look forward to plump snap peas in spring, juicy tomatoes in summer, and sweet corn in fall. Nothing beats a local Hood strawberries in June, am I right?

🌎Happy Earth Day!!♻
Join us this Sat at PSU Farmers Market for a day o Join us this Sat at PSU Farmers Market for a day of local agriculture, sustainability, & community!🌎

Enjoy activities hosted by vendors and partners for all ages happening all market long (8:30 - 2), including:

🌱Food Waves: Learn soil nourishment techniques from PSU vendor & farmer Matt Brown for healthy home gardens.🥬

🌾Rae Selling Berry Seed Bank: See a demo on growing native plants from seeds and receive materials & expert guidance.🌼

♻Sustainability at PSU: Participate in a trivia game for a chance to win PSU merchandise and explore sustainability projects on campus.♻

🍎Urban Gleaners: Spin the “Rescue the Food” Wheel to find solutions for food waste.🍓

😀For pre-K to early elementary school aged kids, there’s Storytime at the Market. From 11 am - 12 pm artist Latoya Lovely will read stories about art, the environment, and community.☀
